Mobile Home Heating Hacks To Stay Cozy And Save Money

Mobile Home Heating Hacks To Stay Cozy And Save Money

December 23, 2020 by MHomeBuyers

For Michiganders, beating the cold is an art form. With freezing temperatures in full swing these days, no doubt you’re feeling the frigid air. No one likes feeling chilled to the bone, especially within their own comfortable of home. So what’s a homeowner to do?

If you’re feeling the chill air inside your home, we have your back. Today we’re going to lay out different mobile home heating hacks that will help you keep cozy and save money.

We get it. In the battle to remain cozy and warm indoors, there’s also the financial strains of a large electric bill to contend with. We hope these hacks are just what you need to keep the icy blast out of your cozy haven.

Mobile home heating hacks

If home is to be a haven, then there’s no way you should feel the wintery blast seeping in through your four walls. Let’s look into some mobile home heating hacks to stay cozy and save money.

Install mobile home skirting

First on our list of ideas you’ll find mobile home skirting. If your mobile home doesn’t have mobile home skirting, then it’s time to make a positive change. Not only will skirting make your mobile home’s exterior look amazing, it’ll cut your heating costs too. And who doesn’t love to save money!

Caulk the windows and door frames

Here’s another hack that’s bound to have a positive effect on your heating bill. Caulk the windows and door frames to keep air from leaking in — for larger gaps, some folks like to use expanding spray foam.

Tackle air leaks around plumbing

And while we’re at it, let’s check out the air leaks surrounding plumbing pipes and fixtures — these spots could also let the outside air into your home. Use spray foam or caulk to help seal those areas where your subfloor has been cut away so that pipes can enter from underneath your mobile home.

Install a draft stopper under your door

Now let’s say you’re in a situation where air is seeping in from underneath your door. For an almost instant solution, consider buying yourself a draft stopper. It’s an inexpensive way to solve that problem — at least it won’t require replacing or reinstalling the door.

Hang heavy drapery

And here’s another idea that doesn’t require much in the way of tools or effort, especially if you already have curtain rods installed! Get your hands on heavy drapery. As you may know, windows are not helpful in keeping the heat inside. Having heavy drapery over your windows will help provide insulation in a weak area of your home. Windows are not the best barriers between the outside elements and your home’s interior.

Be attentive to your air filters

Cleaning and replacing your air filters will aid in creating an efficient air flow system in your mobile home. Your system works hard to collect dust and other allergens. There’s no need to make your system work extra hard by failing to replace the filter. You don’t want it to be bogged down as it does the work of keeping your mobile home warm!

Leverage your oven

And how about that oven in your kitchen? Each time you use it to bake a treat or prepare dinner, leave it cracked open when you turn it off. Let the warmth of your oven seep into the room for added heat. Why keep it contained when you could use it to warm the room?

Upgrade to a programmable thermostat

For energy efficiency, a programmable thermostat will be a good friend to your house and to your wallet. Rather than messing with a thermostat each time you leave the house or come home, you can let the programmable thermostat do the work and thinking for you. With a programmable thermostat, you can associate certain temperatures with particular hours.

This means that you can schedule your heat to kick on during whatever hours you know you’ll be home. And you can schedule it to lower the temperature when you’re not home so that you’re not heating the house for nought!

Don’t become Frosty. Keep the heat indoors.

There you have it — a collection of hacks for a successfully cozy home this winter. Say goodbye to an ever-increasing heating bill. Some of these hacks are low cost. So what’s holding you back?

We wish you the best in making the changes needed to keep your mobile home a comfortable place to be during the winter months.

Speaking of winter — for some, winter and the holidays mean extra time on your hands. Regardless, if you’re thinking of tackling some renovations, we suggest planning your renovation strategy now so you can dive into it next year.
